Stories from the Trail, the Mind, and the Marginalia of a NotebooK
I’m an outdoorsy science editor, writer, and lover of wild places. This is a sample portfolio of my genre wanderlust over a career. I’ve created a range of artistic artifacts by following curiosity’s impulses, which resulted in creative nonfiction essays, long-form journalism, articles, illustrated essays, fiction, poetry, and photo essays.
Most often, I lean on nature for personal reflection—sometimes serious, frequently curious, always chasing a good vista or a better sentence.
I wear three layers most days, since the weather changes so much, no matter the season. There is magic in a Jetboil, instant coffee, and a sketchbook in the backcountry. Through words or trails, I explore what it means to move through landscapes, outer and inner. Thanks for stopping by!

And still life with a notebook and pencil nearby, too.
Runners don’t take the winters off.
